The word anointing has been in the bible from old testament. We are trying to define what is the anointing in the bible now because how it is done in the new testament is quite different from what was obtained in the old testament.
Meaning of the Anointing in the Bible
Anointing is simply the grace to do. power to do, invested on human by God for a purpose.
Purpose of he Anointing
By this definition it means an anointing is supposed to be for a specific purpose. In the old testament, people were anointed by God to carry out specific task. Saul was anointed by God, David was anointed by God, Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Elisha, and all the prophets of God. The anointing that all these people received was in the old testament.
The formal method of this anointing was with oil. Most times it was a transfer from one person to another.
The way God anoint people becomes completely different after Jesus came in the new testament. The plan of God in the new testament is for everyone to receive this anointing, no more selected people. Anointing is the spirit of God coming on a man to perform beyond human capacity.
What is Anointing in The Bible
The first general anointing in the new testament was on the day of pestilent where all the disciples were anointed to go and preach the gospel. Everybody that was in hat room received that anointing.
The Holy Spirit was sent to everybody, and the Holy Spirit is the source of the anointing in the new testament. Once you have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues, you have received the a level of the anointing.
Jesus did not give the apostle any special anointing than the Holy Spirit coming on them with evidence of speaking in tongues on the day of Pentecost. The only difference is that they build it up, they developed it, they grew in it by spending time on the word of God and praying everyday. They built on that foundation, they never relaxed.
This is simply sitting down on the word of God for at least 5 hours every day for eternity.
Definition of Anointing in The Bible
I define anointing as a consistent combination of revelation with prayer and fasting on a regular bases. Anointing is the spirit of God coming on you. Jesus said, the words that i speak, they are spirit and they are life.
Therefore anointing in the new testament is consistently receiving light in excess in combination with prayer and fasting. i had to fall in love with fasting because i have discovered if you want to exceed limits with God, it must involve fasting not just revelation. God has told me many times that a combination of revelation with fasting equals eruptive catastrophic explosion. It is a dangerous earthquake.
How to Receive the Anointing in New Testament
God wants all of his children to be anointed in the new testament. You receive this anointing by first receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues. Then go on a fast get your pastor or a strong believer to help you receive the baptism of the Holy spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues.
Thirdly, look for the spirit of revelation and understanding. Ask God in prayer. Fast and pray for it. it is very important. Fourthly, spend quality time on the word of God daily with prayer and weekly fasting. Pray in tongues always. it will help you to receive the spirit of revelation and understanding fast.
If you spend at least 5 hours on the word of God per day, combined with prayer, you will soon be where we are talking about.
There is a popular preacher in this country that kneels down to study the bible for 8 hours every day, I heard it from his mouth. If I tell you his name, you should then understand why he is that successful.
Types of The Anointing in The Bible
Act 10:38
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
The bible talks of how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with Holy Ghost and power. The anointing is from one source. It is always the spirit of God that COMES ON A MAN THROUGH pouring of oil or laying on of hands.
Luke 4:18-19
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Qualification For The Anointing
The ignorant mistake we make is that God anoint preachers; that is why they have power. I am referring to genuine preachers from God.
God does not pick people and anoint, people rather frame themselves or do things that qualify them for the anointing, and anointing is not laying on of hands. Laying of hands is a physical confirmation of what has already been instituted in the spirit.
That’s why if you listen to some of their testimonies, it was God himself who later told them to go to Mr. B or C to lay hands on them. Those hands are never what made them what they are. Laying of hands is just the principles of God that is being obeyed.
If you are not set for the hands, even if all the preachers on earth lay them on you, it may rather ruin you. It is in the bible that you do not lay hands on people suddenly, only God knows those that are ready for for the hand.
If you study David very well, you will understand that David had such a rare great faith, this means that David believed so much in God more than every other Israelite. Check David’s utterances.
Only people of great faith make such utterances.
This was simply his qualification.
So where did he get this faith from? KNOWLEDGE. This means his mind was completely renewed by knowledge. He was transformed by consistently using the knowledge of God’s word to renew his mind,

The word of God being your life simply means this is what defines you. This is your ultimate. EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU HANGS ON IT. NONE OF THE WORD, NONE OF YOU, MORE OF THE WORD, MORE OF YOU. This is What makes a man live Longer
